COBB PDK Transmission Tuning Optional upgrade for Porsche 981 Boxster/Cayman 3.4L PDK Cars Only

PDK OFF THE SHELF MAPS

In releasing a product that has never before been offered, our Porsche Calibration experts created PDK calibrations that we felt would give the greatest performance impact as well as appeal to most enthusiast owners.  While the specifics of the map for each vehicle may differ slightly, below is a general representation of what to expect when using one of three provided PDK OTS maps.

All supported vehicles will have the following maps to choose from:

  • COBB Sport Map

    • A nice mix between the factory Normal and Sport Drive Modes.

  • COBB Aggressive Map

    • More ideal for vehicles being used on track or during competition.

  • COBB High Torque Aggressive

    • All COBB Sport and COBB Aggressive features plus increased clutch pressures

Below we highlight features that are integrated into the PDK Off The Shelf Maps.  For a complete list of changes made to the PDK OTS Maps please see the PDK Map Notes Page.

  • INCREASED MINIMUM SHIFT POINTS

    • The factory shift schedule is geared towards maximizing fuel economy in Normal mode.  Our calibrators have increased the Minimum Shift Point for each individual gear, giving cars a more sport like feel during normal driving. This feature increases the lowest RPM at which the PDK will shift to the next gear in Normal and Sport drive modes.

  • INCREASED AUTO SHIFT POINTS

    • This feature increases the highest RPM at which the PDK will shift to the next gear in Normal, Sport, and Sport Plus drive modes.

      • COBB Sport does not increase the auto shift limit.

      • COBB Aggressive and COBB High Torque Aggressive increase the auto shift limit to a maximum of 7900RPM

  • RACE START LITE

    • This adds Race Start to Porsche Normal and Sport drive modes for all cars (including vehicles that do not have Sport Chrono). In COBB Sport, COBB Aggressive, and COBB High Torque Aggressive maps Race Start Lite is set at 5700RPM in Normal and Sport drive modes. Race Start in Sport Plus remains at the factory 6700RPM.

  • INCREASED SHIFT FIRMNESS

    • COBB Sport, COBB Aggressive, and COBB High Torque Aggressive maps raise the shift firmness to help reduce clutch slip.

  • INCREASED CLUTCH PRESSURE

    • COBB High Torque Aggressive maps raise the maximum clutch pressures to help reduce clutch slip after shifting. The COBB High Torque Aggressive map is typically used on vehicles that have an increased engine torque output of 50% or more over stock. If the COBB High Torque Aggressive map is flashed to the TCU a PDK Relearn must be completed when changing maps back to COBB Sport, COBB Aggressive, Simulated Stock, or when uninstalling. Failure to do so may result in less than desirable shifting and/or TCU errors. PDK Relearn instructions are located below.

  • MINIMIZED CONTINUOUS CLUTCH SLIP

    • COBB Sport, COBB Aggressive, and COBB High Torque Aggressive maps decrease the RPM at which the clutch is engaged in continuous slip, generally between 1000-2500RPM.

    Cobb Tuner with Pro Tune

Posted by James Beavan on 28th May 2020

I bought this from Fabspeed in 2017 for my 981 BS and have put 20K on the car since. I think it's well worth having this if you are into performance driving street/track/autocross. I have experience with Cobb having owned a Mazdaspeed6 previously, so I know they are quality products that will only make your car better. I got the Pro Tune because I have full exhaust, throttle body & plenum upgrades on my car too. The tune increased power and smooths out some hiccups in the power curve while also getting rid of the trouble codes caused by the exhaust. It's very easy to switch tune maps with the Cobb device and also you can remove the device if you get rid of your car or simply want to not use it anymore.

    Fabspeed Pro Tune

Posted by ICNU on 31st Jan 2017

I wanted to give a shout out to the Fabspeed team for my recent Pro tune they did for me this week. I honestly didn't think that I would be able to notice much of a difference, but the car pulled so much harder and smoother through the entire RPM range than it ever has before and I simply love it! I sent the Cobb data log and required documentation on Sunday evening and had the tune in my email waiting for me Monday morning....talk about quick turnaround! My CS started out stock with the basic Cobb OTS stage 1 which I noticed immediately, and especially when I would remove it for dealer service. Then I installed a set of headers with 200 cell cats, and then finally a Fabspeed TrackTec exhaust along with the Cobb OTS stage 2 tune. I could detect some torque improvement in the lower RPM range, but nothing really huge at that point. I warmed my car up, loaded the Pro tune and immediately noticed a big difference in how the car pulled through every gear, and not at just 7K either. It pulls hard even in 4th or 5th gear for passing when already cruising along at 70 MPH at 3500 RPM......no downshifting required at all. Im just thrilled with the performance my car has now and the price just cant be beat! One of my local Cobb Pro dyno tunes wanted almost 5 X the cost of the Fabspeed Pro tune, so I am very happy with the choice I made and would suggest anyone considering having it done just do it. Its a bargain compared to what other performance mods on these cars cost, and you will know that you are running a custom tune designed specifically for your cars setup
